Seven months after purchasing property on Hamlet Street in Pinetops, Ahoskie-based Jernigan Oil Co. Inc. will hold a ribbon cutting at its newest Duck Thru Food Store at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at 316 E. Hamlet St.
The Tarboro Edgecombe Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the event to celebrate the grand opening. A post on Duck Thru’s Instagram site said, “See you, Monday, Pinetops.”
The store will sell brand-name fuel, Champs Chicken, Hot Stuff Pizza and Sub Express subs.
The store will also carry food items, snacks, hot and cold drinks as well as specialty Duck Thru Deli items, including the chain’s famous fried pork chop sandwich.
Additionally, the store will have a “beer cave” and also will sell bait.
There are more than 50 Duck Thru stores and the Pinetops location will be No. 57 in the store hierarchy.
Based on the company announcement when the property purchase with the town was finalized, the store will employ 15 people on a full-time basis.
Jernigan Oil Co. was founded by L.S. Jernigan Sr. and his son, L.S. Jernigan Jr. in June 1948. The company is still owned and operated by members of the family, with Michael Harrell currently serving as president.
