The inability to convert baserunners into runs proved costly for the Tarboro River Bandits on Monday, as Wilson’s Tobs took a 4-1 win at Municipal Stadium.

It was the second straight win for the Coastal Plain League Tobs over the Carolina Virginia Collegiate League (CVCL) Bandits.

Wilson tagged Tarboro starter Jake Wolf for three runs in the first and never looked back, sparked by a two-run home run by Chris Meyers. The Tobs added a run in the top of the sixth as Meyers scored on a Trey Sweeney single.

Tarboro got a run back in the third when Thomas Fox (Paul Camp) singled and advanced to third on a two-base fielding error by the Wilson shortstop.

Zack Whitacre (Potomac State) had reached safely on the fielding error but was caught stealing two pitches later as he attempted to get into scoring position.

As Whitacre was being called out at second, Fox scampered home with the Bandits’ first run.

Baserunners were few-and-far between from that point on until the sixth, when the top of the Tarboro order led things off.

Box Fox and Whitacre grounded out to short before Gage Riddick (Eastern Mennonite) blooped a single over the left side of the infield to reach safely.

Phillip Boykin (Louisburg) then singled, followed by a walk to load the bases.

The inning ended with Rufus Hurdle (Paul Camp) being retired for the third out.

The loss started an eight-game home stand for the River Bandits, who resume CVCL play with a 5 p.m. doubleheader today against the Fuquay-Varina Twins. On Friday, the Bandits host the Carolina Yankees of Greensboro in a nine-inning game slated for a 7 p.m. start and on Independence Day, the Bandits have a 2 p.m. twin bill with the Twins. The Catawba Valley All-Stars come to town for a nine-inning game Monday at 7 p.m.
