The Tarboro High boys’ basketball team picked up a smooth conference win on Tuesday.

The Vikings earned a 78-39 home win over Southside, pushing their record to 5-2, 2-0 Coastal Plains Conference.

A loss at North Edgecombe over the weekend on Saturday made it two losses in the past three games. Tuesday’s win was the first since Jan. 2 at Southeast Halifax.

Tarboro opened the season with three consecutive wins.

Girls’ basketball

The Firebirds closed out the non-conference season with a late game at Nash Central on Tuesday.

Southern Nash (3-5) has won three of its past five games and is playing well. In last Friday’s home win over Bunn, the Wildcats jumped out to a 14-4 lead after the first quarter.

Southern Nash countered with a 28-0 run that lasted into the third quarter. The Firebirds held off Bunn’s last push for a 48-39 win. Jermia Walker had 16 points, Rayna Bailey scored 12 and Brooke Lucas added nine.
