Basketball will continue for Jake Batchelor.
The recent Faith Christian School graduate signed last week to play basketball at Barton College in Wilson. The Bulldogs are coming off a 13-15 season, and closed strong by winning five of of their last seven games.
Batchelor was the second leading scorer for FCS (20-8), which won the NCISAA Coastal Conference with an 11-2 record. Batchelor was constant scoring force all season for the Patriots, pouring in 14 points per game while his work on the defensive side of the ball garnered 2.1 steals per game, good for second on the team.
The senior also helped guide FCS into the third round of the NCISAA playoffs, where it lost to Fayetteville Academy. Heading into that third round, the Patriots had won seven consecutive games.
The Patriots had also defeated crosstown rival Rocky Mount Academy twice in Batchelor’s senior season.
Batchelor had been a contributor for the Patriots at the varsity level for the past three years. He proved capable early as a sophomore when he averaged a team-high 11.1 points per game.
Then, as a junior, Batchelor averaged 8.7 points per game while adding 1.7 steals.
