The Southern Nash football team secured its sixth win of the season in as many tries on Friday when it defeated Northside-Jacksonville, 45-22, in a road non-conference game.
The Firebirds (6-0) scored 31 points in the first quarter and took a 31-14 lead into halftime. Southern Nash added two more touchdowns in the third quarter to cap the scoring in the win.
Quinton Cooley ran for more than 300 yards for the second consecutive game, and the senior running back added two more rushing touchdowns to bring his season touchdown total to 25.
Southern Nash is off next week, then travel to Wilson Fike on Oct. 11 to open Big East Conference play.

After having their three-game winning streak snapped with last week’s loss, the Gryphons got back on track with a convincing non-conference win at home over their former Big East Conference rivals.
Jaquan Lynch powered the Gryphons (4-2), who got off to a quick start. The quarterback had three touchdowns in the first half, two through the air and one rushing.
Nash Central (3-3) exits its tough non-conference schedule with three wins and three losses. The Bulldogs have a bye week before starting Eastern Plains Conference play at home against Farmville Central on Oct. 11.
RMH is off next week before hosting Franklinton on Oct. 11 in the Big East Conference opener.

The Warriors are on their first winning streak of the season following Friday’s home win in their Tar Roanoke Conference opener.
North Edgecombe (3-3, 1-0) has now won two straight, and will host Northampton County next week.

RMP (1-3, 0-1) have lost three consecutive games after winning the season opener. The Jaguars will travel to Northwest Halifax on Friday.
