The Carolinas Classic All-State basketball games in 2021 have been canceled.
Citing public health concerns relating to COVID-19, the N.C. Coaches Association has decided to cancel the boys’ and girls’ games this year. The NCCA also canceled last season’s games.
Then-SouthWest Edgecombe senior and current Radford University forward Keishon Porter was selected for the 2020 game.
The annual event played in Wilmington features the top public high school seniors from North Carolina and South Carolina.
“As happened last year, our concern for the safety and well-being of these young student-athletes, as well as for spectators attending the games from communities across the two-state area, coaches, and essential personnel, prompted this decision,” co-executive director of the NCCAA Phil Weaver said in a release.
Both state coaches associations will name 2021 Carolinas Classic All-Star teams to honor the 40 student-athletes for their outstanding achievements. The organization said that those honors will be named in early February.
