Once again, there was no shortage of drama and another big finish on Saturday’s final day of fishing at the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament in Morehead City.

The boat Pelagic Hunter II boated a 495.2-pound marlin around 10:30 a.m. that beat out not only the week-long leader by just a single pound but also another late entry by just a couple of ounces. The rare victory by a boat with a standard outboard motor edged out two-time tournament winner Sea Striker’s Saturday entry of 495.0, and also pushed Predator’s early-week fish of 494.2 pounds into third place.

In a busy week of both wegh-ins and releases, no fish more than 500 pounds made it to the scales. Because of this, the annual Fabulous Fisherman award money went Lo Que Sea, the weekly points leader, earning the boat $552,500 plus $151,938 for first place in the weekly release category and $47,813 in Tuesday’s daily release prize money.

Magic Moment earned the daily distinction on the final day of fishing thanks to three blue marlin releases with three generations of the same family each catching and releasing a fish.

In all, the final day included 17 blue marlins, six white marlin and one sailfish release.

One of the highlights of the busy week happened when the boat owned by Michael Jordan, Catch-23, weighed in a marlin that temporarily had the boat in the top five.
