I must admit, the Telegram has me slightly hooked.

I find myself perusing newspaper racks just to spot the latest headline about Rocky Mount elections. Then I snap it up. It’s always good for intrigue, back and forth, charges of dereliction, even an eviction.

I mean, it’s better than the National Enquirer. And while I’m certain the content of that tabloid is almost wholly fabricated, the local political scenarios that play themselves out in the Telegram can’t be made up.

It just goes to show that truth is, as Andy Griffith would say, “way yonder,” stranger — and more entertaining — than fiction around these parts. Amazing!
