Rocky Mount police on Friday arrested Jennifer Harrell, 39, of Rocky Mount on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and felony hit-and-run in connection to an alleged assault of a convenience store clerk.
Police spokesman Cpl. Ricky Jackson said officers responded about 2:30 p.m. Friday to a report of a hit-and-run with injury at the Speedway store at 1493 N. Wesleyan Blvd.
The clerk, Barbara Peckat, 67, sustained minor injuries after she was intentionally struck with a vehicle in the parking lot of the business, Jackson said.
“Peckat, an employee of the business, attempted to get the tag number of a hostile customer who knocked over several displays and threw items at another employee,” Jackson said. “As Peckat attempted to get the tag number, the vehicle backed up, striking her. The vehicle went forward, striking Peckat a second time and knocking her to the ground.”
Harrell was jailed under a $10,000 secured bond, but she was released after posting bond on Monday, Maj. Eddie Moore of the Nash County Sheriff’s Office told the Telegram via email on Tuesday.
Harrell had listed an address in the 600 block of Weathervane Way, Moore said.
State Public Safety records also said Harrell was convicted in 2014 in Wake County for misdemeanor assault on a policeman.
