No one was injured Friday when a tractor-trailer was struck by a CSX train just before 11 a.m. Friday in front of Madem-Moorecraft Reels USA at 3006 Anaconda Road in Tarboro.
First responders were dispatched and upon arrival confirmed that there were no injuries nor any public threat as a result of the collision, according to a post on the Tarboro Police Department’s Facebook page.
An initial investigation by Tarboro police found that the tractor-trailer was traveling east on Anaconda Road attempting to turn into the entrance of several industrial properties and the train was traveling west toward Rocky Mount.
Although the tractor-trailer appeared to have time to safely cross the tracks, investigators said they discovered that the landing gear on the trailer had not been properly secured resulting in the tractor-trailer becoming disabled at the crossing.
The train was unable to stop before colliding with the trailer, but the driver of the tractor-trailer was able to get out of the cab before the impact.
It took work crews nearly nearly three hours to clear the scene and the roadway was reopened to traffic.
Police said in the Facebook post that charges against the driver of the truck are pending until the investigation is completed.
