A wandering pony on the loose in the city briefly became a local social media star before Rocky Mount Animal Control officers were able to corral him and take him to the municipal animal services unit.

Police spokesman Cpl. Ricky Jackson said the police department received a phone call on Monday about a pony running on the golf course at the Belmont Lakes Preserve area in the northern part of the city.

The pony's owner on Tuesday afternoon came and got him from the municipal animal services unit.
