Police are investigating a shooting that occurred late Saturday evening in South Rocky Mount that resulted in a 31-year-old woman being wounded.

Officers at 10:26 p.m. responded to the 100 block of Boyd Court and the woman was taken to Nash UNC Health Care before being transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, Sgt. Scott Hale said in a brief news release emailed to the Telegram by a city spokesman.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to phone police at 252-972-1411 or Twin County Crime Stoppers at 252-977-1111.

Tips also can be texted to police at 274637 by beginning messages with RMPOL and typing up to 155 characters about the information.

Police also are conducting a homicide investigation as a result of a report at 12:06 a.m. Saturday of an aggravated assault in the 800 block of Luper Street in the Little Raleigh area.

Police learned a 30-year-old man succumbed to his injuries at the scene and police officials said the man's name was being withheld pending notification of his family.

An online archive of Nash County emergency medical services radio traffic said EMS personnel were told there had been a shooting in the 800 block of Luper.

The incident in the 800 block of Luper is the sixth homicide in Rocky Mount in 2020.
