Two men were shot Friday afternoon on North Wesleyan Boulevard in Rocky Mount.

The City of Rocky Mount sent out a press release Saturday about a shooting that occurred about 5:13 p.m. on North Wesleyan Boulevard near Sunset Avenue. According to the release, Rocky Mount police responded to a report of a possible gunshot victim at that location.

Once they arrived at the scene, officers located a 22-year-old male victim, the release said. The unidentified man was transported to Nash UNC Health Care and then to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville for treatment.

However, reports from other sources indicated that more than one victim may have been involved.

Shortly after the incident occurred, social media reports stated that a shooting had just occurred near the Ford dealership in that area and that one person had been shot.

However, Capital Ford Lincoln of Rocky Mount later posted a public announcement on its Facebook page with a statement about that report.

“This afternoon, a shooting incident occurred off of (U.S.) 301 near our place of business,” the Friday evening Facebook post said. “However, this incident did not occur at our dealership.”

The post went on to explain that staff members at the dealership assisted two victims in the incident.

“The victims arrived at our dealership to seek help. Our staff called emergency services and assisted the victims until authorities arrived. We are cooperating with the authorities and would like to extend our thoughts to the families of both victims,” the statement said.

After an inquiry by the Telegram, a spokesman for the City of Rocky Mount later clarified that there was another victim in the incident, a 24-year-old man. He reportedly was treated for his injuries at Nash UNC Health Care and released.

The information concerning the second victim was inadvertently left out of the initial press release, the spokesman said.

The investigation of the case remains ongoing.
