Three people were arrested and a firearm reported stolen in Wake County recovered after Edgecombe County Deputy K. Vaughan conducted a routine traffic stop on Saturday in rural Edgecombe County.

Vaughan stopped the vehicle, which was traveling from Scotland Neck to Rocky Mount, on N.C. 97 West near its intersection with U.S. 258.

During the stop, it was learned that a passenger in the rear seat, Martinez Burden of Scotland Neck, had active warrants from Pitt County.

Another rear passenger was found to be concealing a firearm under the driver’s seat near his feet, while the front seat passenger also was found to be concealing a firearm under the front passenger seat. This was the firearm reported stolen out of Wake County.

Burden was served with six outstanding warrants and jailed under a $23,000 secured bond as well as a 48-hour domestic violence hold.

Xavier Smith of Scotland Neck was charged with one count of possession of a stolen firearm and one count of carrying a concealed weapon. Smith was jailed under a $15,000 secured bond.

Damien Anthony, no address, was cited for carrying a concealed weapon and released.
