A Tarboro man has been arrested and charged with felony murder after he surrendered to law enforcement officials in connection with a homicide that took place Wednesday.
Members of the Tarboro Police Department and Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office responded about 11 p.m. Wednesday to reports of a shooting with injury in Section 1 of the Pender Square Apartments in Tarboro.
Law enforcement officers arrived to find 22-year-old Javonti White of Tarboro lying in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite emergency rescue efforts, White was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a press release from the Tarboro Police Department.
As officers investigated the homicide, they identified a potential suspect and initiated efforts to find him. The suspect, Rondell Ward, surrendered himself to law enforcement officers just as that search began.
Ward, 27, cooperated with the investigation and the firearm used in the shooting was recovered, Tarboro Police Chief Jesse Webb said in the statement.
Based upon the findings from the initial investigation, Ward was arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He was jailed without bond in the Edgecombe County Detention Center.
