Rocky Mount police on Monday received a report of a bomb threat on a building in a commercial and residential area on the northwest side of the city, but the report turned out to be unsubstantiated.

Police, in a posting on Facebook later in the evening, said officers responded to the 700 block of Country Club Road.

Police said the structure was evacuated and searched and eventually was deemed clear and safe.

Police had first posted a brief statement on the social media site shortly before 6 p.m. advising of the report of the threat and advising people to avoid the area while officers investigated.
