Rocky Mount police have made an arrest in connection with a recent burglary that took place while the parents were taking their children to school.
According to information recently released by the Rocky Mount Police Department, officers were called about 6:45 a.m. on Jan. 29 to a home on the 500 block of North Daughtry Street concerning a burglary at the home.
The victim, a 48-year-old man, said that he had taken his children to school and returned home to find that his house had been robbed during the roughly 20 minutes he was gone.
The suspects stole many items from the home including assorted electronic devices, several items of jewelry, a safe, a shotgun and a handgun.
The man told police that he had seen a white van parked in front of his home as he was leaving. As officers questioned neighbors, one of them also noted seeing a white van in the area at the time of the robbery.
Later in the day, the victim reported seeing the white van parked at another home in the area. Police investigated the report and apprehended two suspects at the scene. They also were able to identify and recover some of the stolen property at that home.
Ryheim Pittman, 18, was arrested and charged with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny after breaking and entering and two counts of felony larceny of a firearm. He was jailed under a $15,000 bond in the Edgecombe County Detention Center.
A 17-year-old also was apprehended, but it was not clear if he was arrested or charged in connection with the crime.
