Rocky Mount police made an arrest in connection with a recent aggravated assault in which a vehicle was shot at while a woman was driving.

Police responded about 12:59 p.m. on June 22 to reports of shots fired on the 1900 block of Bedford Road. Officers made contact with the driver of the car, a 33-year-old woman, at another location on the 1700 block of East Raleigh Boulevard.

The woman said she was parked in the area looking at a house for sale when she heard the gunshots near her car and fled the scene. Officers examined the 2016 gray Nissan Altima she was driving and found bullet holes in one tire and under the gas tank.

A witness to the event reported seeing a gray and red vehicle in the area at the time of the shooting.

After further investigation, police obtained a warrant for Annazee Hawkins, 20. He was arrested and charged with one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle and one count of damage to property in connection with the incident.

Rocky Mount police Cpl. Clay Wilder said that additional warrants were filed against Hawkins for another incident. However, the department has not revealed any information about that case as a juvenile is involved, Wilder said.

For that incident, Hawkins was charged with five counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and two counts of damage to property. No one was injured in the incident, Wilder said.

Hawkins was jailed for both incidents under a $350,000 secured bond.
