A 23-year-old local man is charged with feloniously committing assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury after law enforcement found another man had suffered a laceration to one of his cheeks.
Jorod Bellamy is accused of having attacked Marvin Powell with an unknown type of knife on March 10, Nash County District Court records said.
Officers responded to the 300 block of Baber Court in the Rolling Meadows apartment complex in South Rocky Mount to what at first was a call about a shooting with an injury, the records said.
When the officers arrived, they located Powell, 20, and learned Powell was at his sister Diamond Powell’s residence in the 100 block of Boyd Court, the records said.
Officers also found out that Bellamy, who is Diamond Powell’s boyfriend, had for an unknown reason threatened to kill Marvin Powell, the records said.
Officers believe that an argument had ensued inside Diamond Powell’s residence and that as Marvin Powell was leaving, Bellamy assaulted him, the records said.
Surveillance video footage showed Marvin Powell leaving the residence and Diamond Powell following him shortly afterward, the records said.
The footage also showed Diamond Powell going into a 2019 Nissan Sentra, going back to her residence and leaving the area before returning shortly afterward, the records said.
Bellamy listed his address as in the 100 block of Boyd Court.
Bond for Bellamy was set at $5,000, secured, on the assault charge, the records said.
Bellamy also is facing charges in Nash County of felony possession of a stolen firearm and misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon, the records said.
