NASHVILLE —The Nashville Police Department is investigating a homicide that took place this morning at the Oak Tree Apartments in Nashville.
The apartment complex is located near Nash Central Middle School.
Nashville Police Chief Anthony Puckett said the incident occurred between 5:15 and 5:30 a.m. An armed gunman made entry into an apartment in what Puckett described as “a home invasion that resulted in a homicide.”
Police are not yet releasing any information about the victim as family members have not yet been notified. However, they are interviewing a witness who is also considered a victim of the home invasion.
“We do not see a threat to public safety and both Nash Central Middle School and Nashville Elementary School have been notified,” Puckett said.
Capt. J.T. Winstead of the Nashville Police Department said the incident is still under investigation but the public should not be concerned.
“We feel like this was an isolated incident,” Winstead said. “The victim and the perpetrator were known to one another.”
