At least 14 people are facing illegal-drug-related charges in Edgecombe County after law enforcement arrested them after having engaged in surveillance or controlled purchases or executed search warrants.

A key arrest was of Anthony Deandre Joyner, 25, on Sept. 1 at his residence in the 800 block of St. David Street in Tarboro. A search of the residence resulted in the confiscation of about 40 dosage units of heroin, a semi-automatic handgun, cash and illegal drug paraphernalia, the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release earlier this week.

The Tarboro Police Department handled the charges stemming from that investigation.

Additionally, the sheriff’s narcotics unit had been making controlled buys from Joyner. As a result, Joyner is charged with two counts each of selling/delivering heroin and possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver heroin.

Joyner is charged with one count each of conspiring to sell/deliver heroin and maintaining a dwelling for the use or sale of a controlled substance.

Among the rest of the arrests, a search warrant was executed for the residence of Roger Alvin Pittman Jr., 32, on Aug. 4 in the 100 block of Dalewood Drive in Rocky Mount. About 70 dosage units of heroin and a shotgun were confiscated, the news release said.

Pittman is charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver heroin and maintaining a dwelling for the use or sale of a controlled substance.

The Nash County sheriff’s narcotics unit assisted with the search of Pittman’s residence.

Pittman also is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.

State Public Safety records show Pittman was convicted in 2016 in Edgecombe County for possession with intent to sell illegal drugs.

The records also show he has a list of convictions dating back to 2014 in the Twin Counties, mostly for committing illegal-drug-related offenses, but also for resisting a law enforcement officer and carrying a concealed weapon.
