Businesses and companies weren’t the only ones affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many social and civic clubs also came to a screeching halt.

The Rocky Mount Toastmasters Club #8957, however, quickly regrouped and began hosting its monthly meetings virtually and installed a new board, hosted an open house, welcomed new members and became an award-winning club.

The club recently held its open house, which showcased Toastmasters International and local club mission, values, goals and objectives.

The members and invited guests heard from club President Mary Hinton and heard an inspiring speech from the District Director Ramona Baylor. From the open house, three new members were enrolled.

The Toastmasters Club is now Area Table Topic champions bringing home first place in the competition held March 24. Natasha Hampton, vice president of public relations, competed on behalf of the club and advanced to Division F, which consists of five areas, 15 active clubs and more than 200 members, winning second place for club #8957.

The 2021 Rocky Mount Toastmasters Board of Directors are President Mary Hinton, Vice President of Education James Byrd, Sergeant at Arms Stephanie Jones, Secretary Anne Williams and Vice President of Membership Pamela Jones.

Meeting information and contact person are through the International Toastmasters Rocky Mount Club 8957, which is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization.
