Spring is certainly in the air, and as our weather gets warmer, United Way Tar River Region has much on tap for the upcoming months.
Please mark your calendars and plan to join us as we celebrate, educate, engage and share the “Live United” message with our community.
We will host an Open House from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 22 at our headquarters at 2501 Sunset Ave. in Rocky Mount to celebrate 10 years of operating in our facility. We remain grateful to Boddie-Noell Enterprises for the donation of our building that continues to provide a hub for our community members, volunteers and nonprofit partners, while providing a lasting home for our United Way.
We will also host the Ripe for Revival “Pay What You Can” Mobile Market that provides fresh vegetables, dairy products, meats and other whole food options at whatever price a person can afford. This converted bus has the ability to provide podcasts and cooking demonstrations, so look for it to be set up in our parking lot and come do some shopping with us.
On April 26, we will host our annual Community Champions’ Luncheon in the Garner Lobby at N.C. Wesleyan University. This event is a positive, feel-good event that honors giving in the Twin Counties. Not only will we celebrate our Community Campaign results and outstanding companies and individuals, but we will also recognize exceptional volunteers, both locally and at the state level.
We will highlight our Spirit of North Carolina Campaigning for Excellence Award Winners: Boddie-Noell Enterprises, City of Rocky Mount, First Carolina Bank, Nash County and Nash County Public Schools, and we will celebrate our N.C. Governor’s Service Award winners who represent our strong spirit of philanthropy in our two-county region.
To top it off, our Davenport Car Giveaway drawing will take place at this event. One lucky United Way donor will walk out of the event winning a year, free of charge, lease on a Davenport Buick.
United Way has sponsorship opportunities for this event and welcomes companies and individuals who want to help spotlight positive and impactful people, organizations and actions making a difference through United Way.
On May 25, we will host our Organizational Capacity Building Summit focused on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Rocky Mount Event Center. United Way, with our DEI Committee, is partnering with the N.C. Community Foundation and the Futrell Mauldin Foundation for Greater Rocky Mount to host this summit that helps provide a local, affordable opportunity for organizations. This year, we have a team of amazing presenters and a schedule that will provide reflection, education, engagement and action-driven ideas.
State-level leaders will be key presenters, as well as local panelists who will share their own DEI journeys. A registration fee of $35 helps cover our cost, and a scholarship is also available to anyone having a financial need. We welcome all to join this well-rounded and engaging event.
To learn more about any of these events or to register to attend, visit our United Way Tar River Region website or give our office a phone call. Our motto of “Live United” is certainly in action this spring, and we welcome you to be a part of any of our upcoming events to celebrate United Way and our community efforts.
