Answers to some comments and questions for Jan. 27

We are currently in the design phase of a new entertainment page that will inlcude movie listings, horoscopes, puzzles, games and celebrity news that many users have told us they would like to see back up on our Web site. Look for the new page to premere in the next few weeks.

Several people have left messages about circulation problems on this location. We will have a circulation message page under customer service so that readers can leave messages, temporarily stop delivery for vacations and renew subscriptions. We will try to forward these circulation messages but you will get faster service by contacting Frank or Jessica in the circulation department at 252-407-9907.

Another reader comment suggested that we start a page dedicated to missing persons. This is the kind of idea we news types don't think of, but it makes sense  and we will certainly look into it. We would probably have to get the names of missing people from various police sources so they're accurate.

One other question involved obituaries. We do not have electronic archives before January 3, 2006. We do have papers that go way back but there is no easy way to search for a story or obituary unless you have the general date to start looking through pages. Those papers and microfilm are available to anyone. Braswell Memorial Library also has microfilmed copies of the Telegram.

We've had a request to bring back Watercooler and Horoscope. If these are pages readers want, we will certainly add them. Our goal was to move our site off the servers of the former owner, Cox Newspapers, with the minimum number of pages needed for our site. Now that we're on our new host, we can start adding pages that are informative, useful and entertaining. We want this web site to provide what our subscribers need to be informed and make daily decisions.

Thanks for all your comments, both the pats on the back and the kicks in the butt. We can't provide what you want to read unless you tell us.

We continue to work on the "Top Jobs" section to add some of the options that were lost during the transition and make it more user-friendly. Please bear with us as our IT personnel work to resolve these issues.

For now, puzzles and games and movie times are not available on our Website. We will look into ways to include these in the future.

The wedding announcements are provided through a third-party vendor, meaning we are working with them to get the announcements updated correctly in a timely manner. They now should be updated through December, and we will continue to work with the vendor to do a better job of keeping them updated.

Yesterday, our classified ads were showing Greenville's Daily Reflector ads as well. That's why there were a lot of Greenville ads appearing. That is now fixed.

You should be able to see all the comments without logging in and registering. However, if you want to post a comment, you will be prompted to register and login.

In the coming weeks we will work out any problems with the new Web site operating system, such as the slower way slideshow photos load. Therefore, we want to hear from any of the 140,000-plus readers who visit rockymounttelegram.com every month.

Tell us the good and the bad, the things you'd like to see added or deleted in the future. Our goal is the same as always—make this site the top source for news about Twin Counties residents and events.

A word about registration. To comment on stories, readers will have to register giving a name and a valid email address. Readers who post profanity, racial slurs or anything else inappropriate will be banned from commenting. This does preclude fair criticism of public officials, policies or any other topic of public interest. It just means a reader will have to use a reasoned argument, not profanity or personal attacks, to show displeasure with someone or some policy.

My email is rwoodin@rmtelegram.com if anyone wants to reach me. Thanks for reading the Telegram.
