A New W Hotel in a Hong Kong Skyscraper

The first W hotel in China opened in Hong Kong in late October. Part of a 92-story waterfront skyscraper, the Cullinan Complex, the W Hong Kong (www.whotels.com/hongkong) features 393 rooms with high-tech amenities, a Bliss Spa, and a vertigo-inducing swimming pool on the 73rd floor with dazzling views of Victoria Harbor.

Two restaurants, overseen by the New Zealand chef Michael Poutawa, have generated local buzz. One, Fire, serves Australasian dishes in a chic bordello red, glass-walled room. The other, Kitchen, is more casual and serves comfort food in a bistro with an open kitchen.

All 42 of the suites offer views of Victoria Harbor, while one special suite, the E-Wow, is outfitted with a dining table that seats eight, an oversized soaking tub, walk-in closets, Swarovski crystal bath fixtures and an aquarium.

Rooms start at 2,550 Hong Kong dollars, about $330 at 7.9 local dollars to the U.S. dollar.
