Tarboro woman charged with check fraud

A Tarboro woman was caught in the act Friday reportedly trying to cash a forged check of her grandfather.

Police said Chelsey Elane Speight allegedly stole a check from her grandfather then went to Piggly Wiggly at 2030 N. Main St. in Tarboro to cash the check. The store reportedly notified police about the suspected fraud and officers arrested her at the grocery store.

Speight, 22, was charged with larceny, forgery of an instrument and uttering a forged instrument. She was jailed in Edgecombe County under a $10,000 secured bond.
