As the championship rounds in the NCHSAA 3-A Individual State Wrestling Tournament begin at 8 a.m. today at the Greensboro Coliseum, three Nash County wrestlers remain standing with hopes of bringing home a state title.

All three also were regional champions last week, and two were standouts on the football field this past fall.

Rocky Mount High’s 145-pounder, Alex Knight, will face Western Harnett’s Michael Zak in his semifinal.

His road to that matchup went through Hunter Huss’ Brandon Bruce and Western Alamance’s Brantley Scott.

Knight defeated Bruce by pin at 4:35 and survived in overtime, 7-5, against Scott with a sudden-death takedown.

Southern Nash’s Reggie Huff remained undefeated and cruised into his semifinal bout today.

Huff pinned Tanner Small of Cox Mill at 4:32 and won, 7-1, against Enka’s Brandon Dills.

Huff, a 182-pounder, will face Ryan Johns of Mt. Pleasant, the Midwest region champion. All four No. 1 seeds reached the semifinals at 182 pounds.

Tamarris Lane has continued his dominance as well with two pinfall victories in the first two rounds of the tournament.

Lane pinned Joseph Lancaster of North Irdell in one minute and scored a pin against Enka’s Andrew Franklin at 4:21.

He’ll face No. 1 seed James Passmore out of Hickory Ridge.

Both wrestlers have lost only once this season.

A victory could pit Lane against his regional championship foe.

Havelock’s Derrick Nelson is still alive on the other side of the bracket and faces the No. 4 seed out of the West Region.

Lane pinned Nelson in just 38 seconds to win the East Region last
Saturday.
