Southern Nash hopes to have its new baseball coach in place by the middle of next week, athletics director Robbie Kennedy said.

Kennedy said the school still was deciding between candidates and hoped to make an announcement at some point next week.

The program initially had intended to hire a coach before school concluded in June, but the search took longer than expected, Kennedy said.

Former coach Jeff Flowers was dismissed as baseball coach in May after another disappointing season. The Firebirds went 5-16 overall, 1-9 in the Big East Conference and missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season.

During the past three seasons, Southern Nash went 12-47, and it won one of its past 22 Big East games.

Flowers previously had been with the program for 18 years.
