GIRLS

ROCKY MOUNT HIGH (6-4) AT NASH CENTRAL (11-3)

PRE-TIPOFF CHATTER: Early-season games have shown there is little talent disparity with regard to Big East teams. That is what should make matchups like tonight’s between the Gryphons and Bulldogs so interesting and important. Rocky Mount claimed a 60-53 victory last month at the Nash County Christmas Tournament, but the Gryphons did not pull away until the final three minutes of the contest.

WHAT IT MEANS: Both teams have the talent and makeup to be in the conversation for the Big East’s top spot. Tonight is the first of 10 steps that will decide the league’s champion.

DIFFERENCE MAKER: The point guards. Nash Central’s Ni’Ya Styles and Rocky Mount’s Carmen Richardson are both their teams’ best players and leaders. The senior who performs best likely will lead their team to an early, yet important victory.
