The Nash County U-14 Babe Ruth baseball squad won both of its games Saturday to advance to the Southeast regional semfinals in Newton.
Nash County won, 3-2, in the first contest against McLean-Great Falls (Va.), then followed with an 8-3 victory against Monroe County (Ala.) in the nightcap.
Nash County will play either Lawrenceburg, Tenn. or Fernandina Beach (Fla.) in today’s semifinals at 11:30 a.m.
“Everyone once again did a fantastic job at the plate,” Nash County coach Lee Gold said. “We moved the runners and played small ball at times. If we keep playing the way we are playing, there’s no reason why we can’t win this tournament.”
Garrett Killebrew pitched seven innings of one-hit ball in the win against Monroe County, and Silas Gonzales recorded the final two outs of the game to put Nash County back in the regional semifinals for the second consecutive season.
The finals are scheduled for 2 p.m.
