Winter weather concerns continue to affect the prep basketball season.

When a number of school systems, including Nash-Rocky Mount, decided to postpone school Tuesday because of concerns about icy roads, the NCHSAA Eastern Regional Basketball Tournament was forced to make scheduling a
djustments.

That included Northern Nash, who will take the court at 5:30 p.m. in Fayetteville’s Crown Coliseum against West Craven in the 3-A girls’ Eastern Regional semifinals.

The second-seeded Knights (26-1), were scheduled to play Tuesday night but they were among two games that were postponed.

Northern Nash was not able to practice Monday or Tuesday because of the breaks from school, and they’ll take the court in a read-and-react manner against a solid third-seeded West Craven team (26-1).

“I think they asked but were told no,” Knights coach Grover Battle said about the school’s request to Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools on the possibility of practicing Tuesday.

Battle said he spoke with players and gave them an itinerary for today’s two-hour trip down I-95.

The veteran coach can only hope his players can make adjustments to what they encounter this evening.

“I’m never anxious when we have had the opportunity to practice,” Battle said. “I feel comfortable when we are able to go over things and the girls know what we want as a staff for them to do.”
