The Ham & Yam Festival will hold a seven-on-seven soccer tournament for boys May 3 in Smithfield.

There will be three age brackets in which to compete: Under-12, Under-15 and Under-19.

The cost to participate is $100, with part of the money being donated to Operation 8:28, a charity organization that sends soccer cleats to kids in Haiti.

The first eight teams in each bracket to register along with payment are guaranteed four games in the tournaments, which will be played at 600 Booker Dairy Road in Smithfield.

Interested parties must send a check or money order with the name of their team to Southern Nash soccer coach Kurt Bienias by April 28 at the school’s address, 6446 Southern Nash High Road, Bailey, N.C., 27807. When the money is received, the official rules and a release form to be turned in on game day will be mailed back.

College coaches are expected to be present at the tournaments, so roster information for each team should be made available.

Anyone with questions can contact Bienias at (863)-669-3228 or kurtbienias@
