GREENVILLE – The East Carolina Board of Trustees this afternoon voted unanimously to hire Cliff Godwin as the Pirate’s new head baseball coach.
He will be paid a starting salary of $200,000 and received a five-year contract.
His salary in 2018-19 will be $240,000 under the contract.
The board met in a specially called meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, with many officials phoning in, to discuss personnel matters. A vote on Godwin was taken after the closed session.
Godwin replaces Rocky Mount native Billy Godwin, whose contract was not renewed after nine seasons with the Pirates.
Cliff Godwin played baseball at ECU from 1997-2001 and helped the team capture a pair of league titles. The Pirates reached three NCAA Regionals and a Super Regional during that span.
