ALL-AREA FIRST TEAM
STEVEN BARRERA, SR., 106 POUNDS, TARBORO: Barrera finished in fifth place at the NCHSAA 2-A state meet and won 44 matches this season.
DAVID GUEVARA, SO., 113, TARBORO: Guevara qualified for the state tournament after finishing third at the 2-A East Regional.
JORDAN DECOSSE, SO., 120, SOUTHERN NASH: Decosse finished fourth at the 3-A East Regional and qualified for the state tournament to cap a 24-win season.
DEMETRICE TAYLOR, SR., 126, NASH CENTRAL: Taylor pulled off an upset in the first round of the state tournament after finishing third at the 3-A East Regional. He finished the season with 25 victories.
RAYSHAWN ELLIOT, SO., 132, ROCKY MOUNT: Elliot finished second in the 3-A East Regional and qualified for the state tournament in the process. Elliot won 44 matches this season.
XAVIEN ANISTEAD, JR., 138, NORTHERN NASH: After finishing fourth in the 3-A East Regional, Anistead qualified for the state meet. He was one of the top 138-pounders in the Big East Conference.
ALEXANDER KNIGHT, JR., 145, ROCKY MOUNT: Knight rolled through the season and finished with 61 victories and just four losses. Knight finished as the state runner-up at 145 pounds.
ELLIOT WHITEHEAD, SR., 152, ROCKY MOUNT: Whitehead came up just short of the 50-win mark. He finished with 48 victories and qualified for the state tournament after placing third at the 3-A East Regional.
GARRETT FREEMAN, SR., 160, NORTHERN NASH: Freeman won 67 percent of the matches he wrestled during his final season at Northern Nash as he qualified for the regional meet.
JANICENTO WILLIAMSON, SR., 170, ROCKY MOUNT: Williamson has been the most dominant wrestler in the area during the pass three seasons. He was a three-time regional champion and set a career-best at the state tournament this season. Williamson finished the year with 57 victories and earned a third-place finish at the state tournament.
REGGIE HUFF, SR., 182, SOUTHERN NASH: Huff went undefeated through the entire season, the conference tournament, the regional tournament and nearly the state tournament. Huff’s only blemish was a loss in the state championship.
TRAVIS COLLINS, JR., 195, SOUTHERN NASH: Collins capped a solid junior season with an appearance in the regional tournament. Collins was one of the top wrestlers at 195 pounds in the Big East Conference.
DENZEL PERRY, SR., 220, NORTHERN NASH: Perry won the regional championship in surprising fashion as he scored seven points in the final period for a come-from-behind victory.
TAMARIS LANE, SR., 285, NASH CENTRAL: Lane sent a loud message with his regional championship win and followed that up with a third-place finish at the state tournament to cap a 25-2 season.
