Nash County sheriff’s deputies arrested two Sharpsburg men Wednesday in connection with a weekend home invasion.

Tony Marichal Sharp, 19, and Byron Dale Whitaker, 21, were charged with three counts of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary, and robbery with a dangerous weapon. Whitaker also was charged with first-degree rape and first-degree sex offense. Both were jailed in Nash County under $500,000 secured bonds.

Authorities said Sharp, Whitaker and one other suspect forced their way into a home Sunday night on the 3800 block of Old White Oak Road in Nashville. Nash County Capt. Pat Joyner said the suspects had bandanas over their faces when they shot a 21-year-old man twice and raped the man’s 28-year-old girlfriend. A 6-year-old girl also was in the home at the time of the attack but was not injured.

The man was treated at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. The woman was treated and released from Nash General Hospital.

Joyner said the investigation into the robbery is ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming. Anyone with information should call the sheriff’s department at 459-4121.
