The olfactory senses of Tarboro police officers landed a convicted felon from Princeville in jail Saturday.
Tarboro police Sgt. Al Braxton said officers were on patrol when they approached a man. Braxton said the officers smelled marijuana and attempted to search the suspect, but he refused. Police said they seized seven grams of marijuana in individual packages and took the suspect into custody.
Devon Smallwood, 34, was charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to sell and deliver, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting a public officer. Smallwood was jailed in Edgecombe County under a $25,000 secured bond.
