A Tarboro man was charged Monday with filing a false police report in Greenville.
Greenville police said Ralph McCoy, 57, told them Sunday that he was kidnapped at knifepoint on Friday, forced to drive to an ATM and robbed of $1,200.
He gave police a description of two suspects who he said forced him to drive to several locations in Greenville, where the suspects purchased crack cocaine.
McCoy told officers the two suspects forced him to smoke crack cocaine against his will and stole his car, police said.
Police found video surveillance showing McCoy and two other people near Pitt Community College and later found McCoy’s 1994 Buick LeSabre occupied by Jimmie Earl Speight, 45, of Greenville.
The investigation led police to believe that McCoy had traded the use of his car to Speight in return for a quantity of illegal drugs, probably crack cocaine.
McCoy was arrested and charged with filing a false report. He was taken to Pitt County Detention Center and held under a secured bond.
Speight was arrested on failure to appear charges and was held under a secured bond at the detention center.
Information from The (Greenville) Daily Reflector is included in this report.
