A Rocky Mount man was arrested Sunday night a few blocks from his home after refusing to comply with police orders.
Frank Edward Cotton Jr., 41, was charged with assault on an officer and jailed in Edgecombe County without bond for reportedly cursing at the magistrate.
Authorities said officers responded around 5:30 p.m. to a fight on the 600 block of School Street. According to police reports, Cotton was arguing with an unidentified man when Edgecombe County deputies and Rocky Mount police arrived. Officers reportedly broke up the fight, but Cotton refused to cooperate and hit an officer in the arm. Cotton was taken into custody. The officer did not require medical attention.
