Police are looking for witnesses to a head-on car crash that claimed the life of a Whitakers mother on Jan. 21.

According to the wreck report, Apolonio Lopez-Acevedo was turning from Benvenue Road onto Thomas A. Betts Parkway when he collided with a vehicle driven by Kimberly Hoyle. The report states Lopez-Acevedo told police he had a green arrow, and Hoyle’s 19-year-old son, Daniel Christopher Hoyle, said he saw a green light before the crash.

Hoyle, 39, died at Nash General Hospital. Her two teenage children – Daniel Hoyle and Kelly Hoyle, 17 — were treated for broken bones at Wake Medical Center and released.

Lopez-Acevedo, 46, was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and driving with no operator’s license. He was jailed in Nash County and held under a $10,000 secured bond.

The crash still is under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Rocky Mount police traffic unit at 972-1481.
