A 22-year-old Rocky Mount man is recovering after allegedly being beaten up and robbed at the basketball courts on the 1000 block of East Holly Street.
Officers found the victim after responding to a call about a disturbance at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Emergency Medical Service personnel examined the victim, who told police he was assaulted by 10 to 15 suspects and robbed of a charger, money and his shoes. A description of the suspects was unavailable.
A convenience store employee thwarted an attempted robbery several hours later at the Kangaroo Express on the 1800 block of North Wesleyan Boulevard. Police said the employee struggled with the suspect who fled the scene before stealing money from the business. The suspect was described as a 6-foot tall black man, weighing between 210 and 220 pounds with a dark complexion, in his late 20s and wearing dark clothing.
