Rocky Mount authorities are investigating a Tuesday night attempted robbery.

Police said a 38-year-old man was in his vehicle in the parking lot of Rolling Meadows Apartment Complex when he was approached by a gunman. The suspect reportedly threatened him with a handgun, but the victim stepped on the gas pedal and sped away from the scene. The suspect fired several shots at him, but the driver was not injured. His vehicle was damaged.

The suspect is described as a black man with a slender build and wearing a red baseball hat.

“We’re following up on leads at this time,” Cpl. Mike Lewis said.
