Police seek gunman in restaurant robbery

A masked gunman robbed a local fast food restaurant and assaulted a clerk in a Thursday night incident.

Police responded shortly before 10 p.m. to an armed robbery at the Hardees at the intersection of East Grand Avenue and East Raleigh Boulevard. According to police reports, a man entered the restaurant around 9:45 p.m. and threatened the occupants with a handgun. The suspect reportedly struck a 39-year-old woman before running from the business with an undisclosed amount of money. The woman was not seriously injured.

Rocky Mount police set up a perimeter and conducted a K-9 track of the suspect, but the search was unsuccessful.

The suspect is described as a 6-foot tall black man with a heavy build, between 20 and 30 years old, weighing about 210 pounds, and wearing a black ski mask, gray shirt and blue jeans.
