Police have one man in custody and are searching for his suspected accomplice in a Monday night assault and robbery.

According to police reports, officers responded shortly after 10 p.m. when employees of Karim’s Food Mart reported a robbery while they were heading to their cars after closing the store. Rocky Mount police Cpl. Mike Lewis said one employee was assaulted as the gunmen stole an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing the scene.

Responding officers said they saw two men near a car matching the suspects’ description and when an officer approached, one of the men took off running. Fuquan Jenidine West, 32, was arrested and charged with felony counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery. Officers determined the second suspect was Darrien Mann, 32, and obtained the same charges against him. West was jailed in Edgecombe County under a $50,000 secured bond.

Anyone with information on Mann’s whereabouts is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 977-1111 or crimestoppers@rockymountnc.gov.

Same store where a poor fellow was killed in 2011. That whole area needs to be placed under Marshall law.
