Rocky Mount police are investigating whether two Thursday night robberies are related.

Around 5:30 p.m., police said a 33-year-old man reported he was riding his bicycle on the 600 block of Center Street when he was approached by a man armed with what he said he believed to be a gun.

The suspect reportedly stole the victim’s cellphone and money, but did not injure the victim.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10 black man with a dark complexion, between 30 and 35 years old, short black hair with a slight beard, weighting between 180 and 190 pounds, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a skeleton on the back and jeans.

According to police reports, a 48-year-old man called police around 7:15 p.m. to report being robbed by a gunman while walking on the 600 block of West Raleigh Boulevard. The suspect reportedly fled with the victim’s wallet.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-8 black man, between 20 and 25 years old with a light build and wearing a hooded sweatshirt. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 977-1111 or crimestoppers@rockymountnc.gov.

“We are exploring the possibility these incidents are connected because of the small geographic area in which they occurred,” police Cpl. Mike Lewis said.
