Rocky Mount police responding to a domestic dispute Saturday morning had to force entry into an apartment.
Authorities said officers responded around 4 a.m. to an apartment on the 700 block of North Raleigh Street where they reported hearing a woman scream. According to police reports, no one would answer the door, so officers were forced to break it down. Police disarmed the suspect and took him into custody. The victim was treated at the scene by Emergency Medical Service personnel for minor injuries.
Dolphus Monzel Stephens, 25, was charged with assault on a female and communicating threats. Stephens was jailed in Edgecombe County without bond.
