Edgecombe County deputies are searching for a man suspected in a Monday afternoon burglary and shooting.

Authorities said deputies were called around 3:15 p.m. Monday to a shooting on Old Wilson Road. Upon their arrival, deputies discovered the victim had been checking on a relative’s house when he reportedly startled a burglar inside the home. The suspect reportedly had found a gun during the break-in and shot the victim in the hand. The victim and the assailant struggled after the shooting, eventually leading the suspect to flee the scene in a white work van toward Rocky Mount.

The suspect is described as a middle-aged 5-foot-11 black man with a slender athletic build, weighing about 160 pounds and a short haircut. The suspect was seen wearing jean shorts and a dark blue or green T-shirt. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office at 641-7911.

LIFE SAVED

That just takes the cake to get shot with a gun that the burglar found in the house he burglarized you were checking on. Lesson to learn here is to take your gun with you every where you go. The new Rocky Mount, "DODGE CITY."
