A Pitt County man was killed Thursday when the moped he was on was rear-ended on U.S. 64.
N.C. Highway Patrol officials said Edward Brady Jr., 50, was driving the moped west on U.S. 64 about a half mile east of Rocky Mount when he was hit from behind by a van from a Raleigh business. The Bethel man died from his injuries.
Britney Alston, 23, reportedly was driving the AutoZone van and was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed.
Authorities said it is illegal for mopeds to be driven on highways with limited access, including U.S. 64.
