Rocky Mount police made two arrests and issued a warrant for a teenager in connection with a fatal shooting Friday at Night Life Bar and Grill.
Police said they obtained a first-degree murder warrant for Royal Rakem Williams, 17. Doron Terrel Alston, 28, and Kenny Maliek Bynum, 29, were arrested Friday and jailed in Nash County. Alston, 28, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury. Bynum, 29, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury.
Rocky Mount police said they still are following up on leads to identify other suspects in the slaying. Additional charges will be filed at a later date, officials said.
All the charges stem from a fight inside the bar that resulted in the death of Ryan Craig Bobbitt, 24. Authorities responded to a call at 2 a.m. Friday about a fight inside the bar at 821 Country Club Road. Upon arrival, officers found Bobbitt, who had been physically assaulted and shot.
Officers attempted to perform life-saving measures and called Emergency Medical Services, but Bobbitt was pronounced dead at the scene.

A young man has lost his life over nothing. But Charles Penny and the City Council can say at least they are revitalizing downtown. Maybe the new downtown will give somewhere for all the thugz in Rocky Mount to go. I want to make sure that Penny and the council walk the streets and hang out downtown at night without the RMPD escorting them around. instead of wasting taxpayer money on downtown we should spend that money to clean up this town and get rid of all these criminals. We need a police chief that will not have to answer to the council or city manager. Someone who will clean up this town.
Why was DORON ALSTON able to be walking the streets of RM?
Doron Terrell Alston, 24, shot and killed Benjamin Lane, 29, inside the Rocky City nightclub at 107 Marigold St. back in 2007!!!!. He also injured four other people, including a woman that had to be airlifted to Pitt.
Now, can someone tell me why DORON TERRELL ALSTON was even able to be walking the streets of Rocky Mount, NC? It's not his first shooting at a club/bar people. Seems to me he's beat the system somehow. I see another major problem with thugs getting out of prison too soon when they should be locked up for good and NEVER walk our streets again!! Someone needs to find out why ALSTON was released.
I've seen a lot of police reports with problems at the bar on Falls Road and Shaq's After Dark. It's not just Nightlife Bar & Grill that has thug issues. Maybe the ones that probably get barred from the other bars didn't have anywhere else that they could go so they started going to Nightlife with their thug ways.

i know for a fact that night life bar and grill has really cracked down on whom they let into the bar and they do check id's and check coats poctets and bags.Who really knows if the 17 year old was even in the bar?so many stories have been passed around that half the people whom commented on this subject probley only heard half a story or even a hear say story.I support night life bar and grill and im so glad they have cought the KIDS whom think they where defending themselves by shooting a young man.May Ryan rest in peace.

Without that type of strict security its is not realistic to expect any bar, club, restaurant, or store to keep armed individuals out.
Other commenters have suggested that security at the bar was either inadequate or not doing their job properly. I don't know the details regarding security at the bar. Even using a security guard or off duty police officer is not going to ensure safety for bar patrons. Security guards/off duty police officers can serve as a deterrent or breaK up some disturbances/fights. That alone is not always going to be enough to stop armed individuals from entering an estabilishment who are intent on violence. So commenters in here must want airport type security. Metal detectors and pat downs are used at some high school football games in this area. Whether businesses along with customers are going want these type of security measures is another question. Even that type of secuity is not always going to be 100% successful in preventing violence in bars, public places, parking lots, homes, etc.

Nightlife is a disaster
The irony of Nightlife's sign outside, attached to their building, that says, "No I.D., no Enter." A 17 year old, little boy not only ruined his own life, in which I'm sure no one cares about; he obviously wasn't on the right track to begin with, but he took another life that was important to most of us. Huge thank you, Nightlife! You're at fault almost as much as the one who pulled the trigger. If you had actually stuck to your 'rules' and your employees actually do the job they're getting paid for, BooBz might still be alive today. This nightclub NEEDS to be shut down, ASAP!

Why was a 17 year old allowed in a bar? What kind of security does this bar have? There so called security is pitiful!!! They should be shut down now. How irresponsible could they be. Thank God they have caught them and I hope they rot in hell!! I hope they catch the rest of the cowards that were involved too. Let's clean this town up and shut down these shady bars. This lack of security is ridiculous. I still can't believe that this murder actually left the bar and came in with a gun. I'm beginning to think this security guard was drunk himself.
