A Rocky Mount police officer was not injured Monday when a suspect shot at her.

Authorities said the officer, whose name is not being released, responded to a disturbance just before 1 a.m. to a house on the 600 block of Woodland Avenue. The resident, Roger Lee Belcher, is accused of firing at the officer as she approached the house. The officer was not hit. Other officers arrived to assist and were able to talk the suspect out of the house without incident.

Belcher, 51, was charged with felony aggravated assault on an officer with a firearm and misdemeanor counts of possession of a firearm while intoxicated, illegal discharge within city limits, resist, obstruct or delay and a loud music violation. He was jailed in Edgecombe County under a $150,000 secured bond.

Officer Shot At

Why is this guy not being charged with attemped murder plus what he's already been charged with? Is this what the new team of attorney advised or the States's attorney office? This is crazy??????????

Here is a chance

I am glad the officer was not hurt. However, here is a chance for the RMPD to send a message to all the criminals in Rocky Mount. She should have shot that SOB dead! This man will not serve any time in prison for what he did. If the police and citizens will start shooting back at some of these criminals they will get the message this is our town not theirs.
