Police are investigating a scam that defrauded an 85-year-old woman out of $500 Tuesday.

According to police reports, the victim was at Walmart when she was approached by two women who reportedly told her they’d give her a large undisclosed amount of money in exchange for an earnest payment. Police said the victim withdrew the money from her bank account and met the suspects in the parking lot of Walmart, but when she gave them the money, the suspects drove away in a black car. One suspect is described as a 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-8 black woman around 40 years old, weighing between 250 and 280 pounds and wearing a short blonde wig.

“If someone approaches you with a story of that nature, please know it is a fraud,” Rocky Mount police Cpl. Mike Lewis said.
